Usually, the primary sludge from the primary treatment is supplied together with the excess sludge from the final clarification of a common anaerobic sludge treatment. Since the surplus sludge contains approx. 90% of the phosphorus from the inflow of the sewage treatment plant and it accounts for only approx. 40% of the total sludge quantity, it makes sense in the future to use this sludge fraction separately for the phosphorus recovery.
Characteristics of the phosphor recycling process are:
- Decentralized procedure
- Holistic approach of nutrient recovery (P and N) and sludge treatment
- Sewage sludge flexibly recyclable
- External sludge acceptance possible
- Obtaining a directly usable fertilizer
- Increase in gas yield by 15% through fixed bed reactor and thermal pressure hydrolysis
- Reduction of sewage sludge quantity by 10 – 15%
- Saving precipitant (about 2/3) and polymer (about ½)
- Energy consumption on wastewater treatment plants in PS decreases, own energy production increases
- MAP precipitation in the system almost impossible (decanters, pipes, containers)
- Target values PO4-P run from 0.5 mg / l to 0.3 mg / l are possible and economically feasible.
- Favorable nutrient ratio in the wastewater by N reduction and addition of citric acid for the aluminum recycling process, can expect an improvement in the discharge values
- Optimal “harvesting conditions” for Bio P sludge can be realized
- The required criteria> 50% recovery rate, or 20g PO4-P / kg TM are met.
- The result is a high-quality MAP fertilizer with very low heavy metal contamination
